History CMS is the acronym in English, Content Management System, for system of management of contents. The first management systems of contents were developed by organizations who published a great amount of content in Internet, and needed continuous updates; like magazines in line, newspapers and corporative publications. In 1995, the site of the technological news CNET removed to its management system of documents and publication and created a called company Vignette, pioneer of the commercial management systems of content. The evolution of Internet towards vestibules with the more contained and participation discharge of the users directly, through blogs and social networks, have turned to the managers of contents into an essential tool in Internet, as much for companies and institutions as for the people. Wikis and the systems groupware also are considered CMS. Nowadays versions developed in propietary open code and versions exist. In both cases an implantation to adapt the manager of contents to the graphical scheme and wished functionalities is necessary. For certain managers many groups available exist that a simple implantation on the part of a user without programming knowledge allows. The paradigm of this case is Wordpress, manager on whom are a great community of developer of extensions and groups. Definition The manager of contents is a computer science application used to create, to publish, to manage and to publish digital content in diverse formats. The manager of contents generates pages dynamic, by means of DHTML, dynamic [HTML]; the application interacts with the server to generate the page Web, under request of the user, with the predefined format and the extracted content of the data base of the server. This allows to manage, under a padronizado format, the information of the servant, reducing the size of the pages for unloading and reducing the cost of management of the vestibule with respect to a static page, in which each change of design must be realised in all the pages, of the same form that whenever it is added content must maquetar a new page HTML and raise it the servant. Initial considerations Understood like a system of support to the management of contents; since, in fact, they are the communication strategies those that really take to manage contents of effective form; the computer science systems can at the most in line provide the necessary tools for the publication, or include services of support to the decision making reason why to the management of contents it talks about. The manager of contents is applied generally to talk about to publication systems, being able to underestimate the support functionalities, to the detriment of the functionalities related to the optimization of the times of publication. The correct implantation of the system, in accordance with the needs of the client is necessary, and is necessary to understand the project of a vestibule Web in a project of communication structured and raised well on the part of the client. The election of the correct platform will be vital to reach the objectives of the client, since they exempt particularitities as much differentials in his adaptability to graphical schemes like the possible integrabilidad of functionalities and additional extensions. The positioning in finders highly is related to the volume of contents of a vestibule and to the form in which this one appears. It is important to have that in account for the structure of the vestibule to guarantee a correct organic positioning. Operation A management system of content always works in the Web server in which the vestibule is lodged. The access to the manager is realised generally through navigating Web, and the FTP use can be required to raise content. When a user accedes to a URL, that call is executed in the servant, the graphical scheme is selected and the data are introduced that correspond of the data base. The page is spawned for that user, final code HTML is generated in that call. Normally one predefines in the manager several formats of presentation of content to give the flexibility him at the time of creating new sections and information. Management of Users Following the selected platform it will be possible to be chosen different levels from access for the users; going from the administrator of the vestibule to the user without edition permission, or creator of content. Following the application it will be able to have several intermediate permissions that allow the edition of the content, the supervision and reedición of the content of other users, and etc. The CMS controls and aid to handle each passage of this process, including the technical workings to publish documents to one or more sites. In many sites with CMS a single person plays the role of creator and publisher, like for example blogs. Types of Managers CMS The content managers can be segmented according to different criteria:
Initiatives of Standardization Within the vestibules processes of standardization have been realised directed to the homogenization in the interfaces of programming of the same in such a way that a service developed for a vestibule can be executed in any other compatible vestibule with the standard. The objective is to obtain propietary interoperable vestibules avoiding development. The two more important initiatives are the Portlet Specification API JSR-168 and the Content Repository API JSR-170. It sees a list of managers of compatible contents in the Annex: Systems of management of contents. Opportunities The manager of contents facilitates the access to the publication of contents to a greater rank of users. he allows that without knowledge of programming nor model-making any user can index content in the vestibule. In addition he allows to the dynamic management of users and permissions, the collaboration of several users in the same work, the interaction by means of communication tools. The costs of management of the information are much smaller since a link of the publication chain is eliminated, the maquetador. The model-making is done at the beginning of the implantation process of the manager of contents. The update, backup and reconstruction of the vestibule are much more simple when having all the vital data of the vestibule, the contents, in a data base structured in the server.
